If you have googled, “ Teen hairstyles ” or “ braided hairstyles ” more than once, you may be a perfect candidate for this business:
Making money from hairstyles.
Do you love hair? Do you love trying new updos, braids, and twists? Well let me tell you, the new in-style hair is new-style hair. If you are already jumping on this wave, you might as well make some money from it. Right??
If you had to wear the exact same outfit every single day, you’d get bored fast, wouldn’t you? It doesn’t take long for girls to feel that way about their hair. They’ve nailed the basics: Straight. Curly. Up. Down. They lose their fascination really quickly.
The internet is changing things…girls all over the world who are bored with their hair only have to type in, “Back to school hairstyles” on Pinterest and they’ve got quite a selection of tutorials and options.
You can jump in and make money along the way. Now is the perfect time. You’ve got a niche market, high demand, and not too much competition. Yet. You’ve actually got something to lose if you miss the opportunities this article explains.
Let’s start with the one who started this trend. Many of you have probably heard of Brooklyn and Bailey. Well, they didn’t get famous without a little online hairstyle business fairy dust.
When the twins were just toddlers, their mom, Mindy McKnight, got tired of doing pigtails every day. She started taking pictures of different hairstyles and putting it in a photo book for her girls to flip through every morning. She says:
“During those seven years, that photo book had been worn ragged by all four of my girls. It was not until October 2008 when I finally decided to record the hairstyles in a blog format so that I had something “permanent” to reference. As friends, family, and even strangers asked me how I made a certain hairstyle, it was very easy to refer them to the blog for step-by-step instructions.”
Now, a few years later, she is making a significant amount of money from her website, Cute Girls Hairstyles. Do you think you could do the same thing?
I absolutely believe that you can.
Besides, what is the difference between you and Lily Burt whose “heatless hairstyles” video that she created at age 15 has 11,826,502 views? Or Tina at MakeupWearables who has 1.4 million followers? Or Beauty Can Braid, who has 270 hairstyle videos for those with curly, coarse hair like hers?
I know the difference.
They’ve started and you haven’t. I am going to give you the tools and ideas you need to get your hairstyling business off the ground.
Make Money from Teen Hairstyles Online
It has become SO EASY for you to start making money online as a teen. HowToMakeMoneyAsAKid has pooled enough resources for you to learn how to make a full adult income within a few years of dedicated work. You can do this by starting your own website and Youtube channel: do yourself a favor and check it out (it’s free!).
You will find that the best (and easiest) online money comes from advertising. Choose your niche and build your audience by producing quality content. Once your fan base starts building, companies will start paying you to advertise on your pages (website, youtube, etc.).
Again, once you have a bigger audience, brands will take interest in you. For a fee, you can tell your audience about their products. You could promote curlers, straighteners, hair sprays, hair accessories, cool hairstyling gadgets, creams and oils, and everything else you can think of.
Even better, you can create your own products. Here are some ideas:
- Some snazzy invention that makes hairstyles easier
- Hair accessories
- Sets of video tutorials
- Hair care packages
As long as you can mass-produce it and have a way of getting it to your loyal fans, you could make bank. Don’t limit yourself: give a try to anything else you can think of that has to do with hair. You could also try selling your products on Amazon, Ebay, Etsy, or other online platforms.
Maybe you have heard this pitch from other online money-makers, especially life and business coaches: You pay me $$$ and you get to join the club. This might involve receiving a special, personalized consultation from me via skype. Or maybe you get exclusive membership-only videos and advanced access to public videos before they go live. You could add to that the opportunity to chat with other people that have purchased memberships and exchange ideas. If you can think of enough attractive perks that the “in-club” members get, you will have people that want to pay for a membership to all this amazing stuff!
Email is a great way to do something called “upselling.” You know how this works—it has happened to you many times, I’ll bet. They sign up for your email list, you send them a new hairdo to try every Monday, and at the end of every other email, you offer them an exclusive discount on one of yo
Another great chance to get new subscribers and offer upsells is to do a webinar. Webinars can help you rise to the top of your competition and get some initial attention. Be sure to add some kind of call to action at the end: “Buy this cool headband I made!”
Contribute to Other Sites
Sometimes you can make some money by writing a guest post/video for another popular site. If you have a video that you are particularly proud of or that is especially unique, try selling it to some the corporate go-tos, Teen Vogue, Style Craze, Seventeen, Hairstyle Camp, Outfit trends, etc. It doesn’t even have to be a company that offers hairstyles; market your material to any media company that targets teen girls.
Create an App
This option by far has the highest up-front costs. So I wouldn’t recommend it unless you happen to have a family member or friend that could program it and your idea is out-of-this-world amazing. (Don’t just ask family if it is cool. They will all LOVE your idea. Ask people who aren’t afraid to tell you if your idea isn’t awesome.)
How to Get Started
This stuff has been all talk. Let’s get to the walk.
As you can imagine, there are lots of tips and tricks you will need to learn before you can do any of this successfully. If I put it here, it would make a very, very, very long blog. I am not going to put you through that.
Instead, I have made several short videos that you will find much more engaging and SUPER helpful.
*DON’T TRY STARTING THIS HAIRSTYLE BUSINESS WITHOUT WATCHING THESE VIDEOS*
One thing you should know before you decide where you want to start: You can make $ much money if you have a presence on a social media platform, like Youtube or Instagram. You can make $$$ money if you have a website to back it up where you can collect emails, market product, leverage ads, create membership portals, and everything else you need to make these options successful. At least that is what millionaire Joe Pulizzi says. (Psst. You should listen to him. He is the #1 expert on how to make money online by producing content.)
HMK knows this and practices it. That is why we decided to create a course designed to help you build your money-making foundation. HowToMakeMoneyAsAKid’s website development course will teach you all you need to know about:
- How to find a niche you can succeed in
- The technical side: how to create a website (and turn it into a money-making machine)
- Sweet discounts that can get you started for cheap
